Many students in South Africa find math very hard. Choosing the right course can make study easier.
At the University of Cape Town, social work is a strong option. It focuses on people and communities, not numbers. Students learn how to help families and improve society.
Education is another good path. At Stellenbosch University, students can study teaching. Many future teachers choose subjects like languages or history. These courses use little math and focus more on reading and writing.
Law is also a safe choice. The University of Pretoria offers law degrees that train students in legal systems. Most of the work is about cases, writing, and speaking. Math is not a big part of this field.
Media studies at the University of Johannesburg is popular. Students learn about journalism, film, and communication. The focus is on creativity and analysis. This course is friendly for students who do not enjoy math.
Psychology at Wits University is another option. Students study human behavior and mental health. While statistics appear in some modules, the main focus is on people and research. Many students find this manageable.
Tourism and hospitality at the University of KwaZulu-Natal is also strong. Students learn about travel, hotels, and customer service. The work is practical and people-focused, with very little math.
Bursaries like NSFAS support students in these fields. Many private companies also give bursaries for teaching and social work. This makes it easier for students who struggle with math to still build a good career.
