South African matric learners and prospective students have very little time left to complete their university applications for the 2027 academic year. Tomorrow, 30 September 2026, is an important application deadline at several universities across the country. Anyone who has not yet applied, or who has an incomplete application, is encouraged to use today to check everything before the deadline arrives.
For many Grade 12 learners, university applications have been open for several months, but it is easy to keep postponing the process while focusing on school and examinations. With 30 September now here, applicants should avoid waiting until the final hours. Application websites may experience increased traffic, and discovering a missing document or another problem at the last minute could make completing an application more difficult.
Several institutions have application deadlines falling on 30 September 2026. The University of the Western Cape (UWC), for example, states that its 2027 undergraduate applications close on 30 September, while the Central University of Technology (CUT) says its 2027 application cycle for undergraduate programmes and several other qualification categories closes on the same date. Many Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) programmes for South African applicants also carry a 30 September deadline, although some programmes closed earlier.
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is another institution where prospective students should pay attention to tomorrow's deadline. Current information promoting DUT's 2027 intake states that applications close on 30 September 2026. Because closing dates can differ between programmes and applicant categories, students should still confirm the deadline for their chosen qualification on the university's official website or application portal.
Students who have already applied should not assume that there is nothing left to do. Today is a good opportunity to log back into the application portal and check the status of the application. Make sure the correct programme was selected, all required information was entered, supporting documents were uploaded and the application was successfully submitted. If the institution requires an application fee, applicants should also confirm that the required payment has been completed.
Supporting documents are especially important. Depending on the institution and the applicant, universities may require documents such as an identity document, Grade 11 results, available Grade 12 results, academic records or other supporting information. CUT, for example, lists different document requirements depending on whether an applicant is currently in matric, has already completed matric or holds higher qualifications. Missing documentation could affect whether an application can be properly considered.
Applicants should also save their application details after submitting. Keep your student or application number, proof of payment where applicable, login information and any confirmation received from the university. It is also worth checking your email and SMS messages regularly because universities may communicate important information about outstanding documents, application status or further steps using the contact details provided during the application.
It is important to remember that 30 September is not the closing date for every South African university or every qualification. Some programmes closed earlier, while other institutions continue accepting applications beyond September. Students should therefore not assume that they have missed every opportunity if they do not apply by tomorrow. Instead, check each institution's official website to see which applications remain open and what deadlines apply to your chosen course.
For learners whose chosen university or programme closes tomorrow, however, the message is simple: do not leave your application unfinished. Use today, 29 September 2026, to apply, upload outstanding documents, complete any required payment and double-check your application. Your university application is an important step towards studying in 2027, and taking a few minutes to check everything today could prevent unnecessary problems after applications close.
