Matric results are out. Here is how to check your marks and what they mean for your future.

Some learners feel nervous when they hear about results. The marks are more than numbers. They show if you can study further or need to rewrite. The Department of Basic Education gives results in January.

You can check your results in a few ways. Go to your school and ask for your marks. You can also send your ID number and exam number to 35658 by SMS. Many learners use the DBE website or the MatricMate app.

There are different pass levels. If you get a Bachelor’s pass, you can apply to university. A Diploma pass lets you study at a college. A Higher Certificate pass means you can do short courses. If you failed, you can rewrite in May or June.

Some learners from schools like Mamelodi High and Beacon Hill Secondary are applying to places like Tshwane University of Technology and Cape Peninsula University of Technology. These places offer late applications for some courses.

If you want to study teaching, check out University of Pretoria. For nursing, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University is a good choice. NSFAS is open for bursary applications until 31 January. You must apply online and upload your documents.

Your marks do not decide everything. You still have choices. You can study, rewrite, or take a gap year. Many learners find new paths after matric. You must choose what is best for you.
